Education Department At the Abilene Zoo, we make it our goal to provide the public with a rich educational and recreational experience. We do this by having various programs available throughout the year to the public, as well as area schools and organizations. Such opportunities include educational programs for schools and organizations, zoo tours, weekend programs for the public, monthly educational programs for preschoolers, the Zoo Teen program, and zoo camps. The Education Department Mission Statement and goals are as follows: EDUCATION DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT EDUCATION DEPARTMENT GOAL VOLUNTEERING EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOLS / ORGANIZATIONS Each school year, there are many educational opportunities available for your students here at the Abilene Zoo. We offer our normal selection of educational programs, as well as any specially requested topics you may have that will fit in with your curriculum. There are two types of educational programs available : Programs on Zoo Grounds and Outreach Programs. Programs are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis, and need to be scheduled two weeks in advance, in order to ensure program time and date. Programs can be scheduled by calling (325) 676-6487 two weeks in advance of your request date. Programs on Zoo Grounds: Programs on zoo grounds are held in the Education Building. Groups need to be at the front of the zoo 10-15 minutes before the start time of the program. Outreach Programs: Outreach programs are programs at your location and cost $50 an hour.
