Clinic Schedule: Testing and treatment for STDs are available by appointment only.

Fee: Fee for services is $5.00 (STD ONLY); however, no one is refused service because of inability to pay.


STD TESTING AND TREATMENT
The Clinic offers testing and treatment for the sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) of Chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. Treatment is available for minor cases of genital warts. No testing or treatment is available for herpes. The Clinic has educational materials on most sexually transmitted diseases.



Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, and Diabetic Screening


Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street

Clinics include laboratory testing and education.

Family Planning


Location: 2250 Ambler (Northwest corner of the Sears Park Building)

Family Planning services include a physical exam, education and preferred selected method of contraception.  Office hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to Noon and 1 pm to 5 pm.  Women's Health Program, Texas Medicaid and private pay clients are accepted.  Call 676-6634 for more information or to schedule an appointment. 



Pregnancy Testing


Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street

Pregnancy testing is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday only from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.



Hepatitis B Vaccinations


Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street

Offered for age 18 and older for work related issues, and for Hepatitis B positive carriers with children.  Services provided at the Health District Facility at 850 North 6th Street.



Shots (School, Child, Adult, Travel, Seasonal Flu)



Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street, Abilene, Texas

School and Child Immunizations are given on a walk-in basis; Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on the 1st Tuesday of each month.  No appointment is necessary.

**Be sure to bring any shot records you have for your child when you come to the clinic**

Adult and Travel Immunizations are given on a walk-in basis; Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. No appointment is necessary but the cost per vaccination varies. (Please note: Travel shots are on a walk in basis but please call and make an appointment for Yellow Fever vaccine as we are currently in a shortage of Yellow Fever vaccines.)

TB Testing


Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street

TB testing is available Monday and Tuesday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm only.

TB Clinic for individuals with active TB or who have had a positive TB skin test may call for appointments.



Texas Health Steps


Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street

Texas Health Steps provide a physical, developmental-stage screening, and appropriate education. A current Medicaid card is required. Call for appointment Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.



Laboratory


Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street

The Abilene - Taylor County Public Health District operates a CLIA certified laboratory providing numerous tests such as these: (a physician order is required)

Complete Blood Count - Used for many general health check-ups. Checks for conditions such as anemia.

Urinalysis - Detects any problems in the urinary tract, such as infections.

Urine Pregnancy - Determines pregnancy.

Chemistry Profile - Used for many general health check-ups. Combination of 20 different chemistry tests. Checks for glucose, cholesterol, liver functions, and electrolytes.

Coronary Risk Profile - Checks the Total & HDL Cholesterol and performs calculations to determine a patients risk for coronary disease.

Syphilis & Gonorrhea Testing - Test for these sexually transmitted diseases.

Hepatitis B antibody Test - shows if you are immune to Hepatitis B.


Must have Doctor's request before any of these tests can be performed.




Water Testing


Location: Health District Facility, 850 North 6th Street

Water Testing - Bacteriological testing to determine suitability for drinking.

A sterile container can be obtained from the Health Department, along with a request form. Fee is $25.00 for each sample and sample must be brought in to the Health Department within 30 hours after water is collected. Samples can be brought to the Health Department, Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Samples require 24 hours incubation and results are reported the following day and mailed to client. Information is sent with any positive results, explaining how to disinfect the well.

Collection Procedure:

Disconnect any hoses, filters or other devices from faucet. Let water flow for 3 minutes, to clear the line. Then sterilize the faucet with a lighter, torch etc.

Reduce the flow to slow and collect water into the sterile container. Be sure not to touch the inside of the bottle or lid. Fill the container and secure the lid tightly and transport to the Health Department, 850 North 6th, Abilene, Texas 79601.
