EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor degree in parks and recreation management, public administration, business administration, or a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience with management and operations for program and service delivery. A Master degree in public administration or business administration is preferred. The ideal candidate for this
position will have previous experience in a similar municipal or community-oriented service environment in a comparable or larger city.
The successful candidate will have experience with contributing in a collaborative, team environment, effectively developing and maintaining relationships, and building a strong employee team. The candidate should have a proven track record of a clear and consistent communication style, strong presentation skills and fiscally conservative
budgeting and financial management skills.

Qualifications:

This position involves technical laboratory work. Will be responsible for performing a variety of standard and specialized chemical and microbiological tests. The applicant must be able to lift and carry 70 lbs. Work also includes taking samples and responding to and following up with public complaints. Experience in technical laboratory work is preferred. Requires a Bachelors degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a Bachelors degree in environmental sciences, physical sciences, or engineering with 16 hours in biology, or 16 hours in microbiology, or 24 hours in chemistry. Qualifications:

Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of professional planning work within the Planning Division. This position will be primarily responsible for long-range planning, neighborhood coordination and planning, demographic analysis, historic preservation, and special projects. Other responsibilities may include current planning tasks, such as case review, preparation and presentation of staff reports to Boards and Commissions, review of site plans and plats, ordinance writing and interpretation, and customer service. The Planner will also be involved in various long-range planning activities, including development of small area and corridor plans.
Planner I requires a Bachelors Degree in Planning or a related field plus one year experience, or a Masters Degree.
Planner II requires a Bachelors Degree in Planning or a related field and at least two years of experience in a professional planning position, or a Masters Degree and one year of experience. This a professional and administrative position to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the engineering, operations, and maintenance work of the Traffic Engineering and Operations division of the City. The position includes technical supervision of investigations, engineering design, preparation of plans and contract documents, and inspections of traffic control projects; direction of subordinate supervisors engaged in the installation, operation and maintenance of traffic control devices; provides traffic engineering advice and assistance to other City units; and interaction with management and the public on traffic engineering issues. Work is performed with considerable professional independence and judgment under the general direction of the Traffic and Transportation Administrator.

Zoo Curator

Qualifications:

The Abilene Zoo is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the senior staff and oversee the daily operation of the zoo’s animal department. Duties include training, scheduling and supervising the animal care staff, and maintaining animal department records including ISIS/ZIMS. Developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures related to the care and management of the animal collection. Preparing and implementing the animal department budget. This position will manage animal transactions and assure adherence to all local, state, federal, USDA and AZA regulations and guidelines. In cooperation with the staff veterinarian, overseeing preventative, routine, and emergency health care to the animal collection. In cooperation with zoo staff, developing, implementing, and overseeing a progressive animal training and enrichment program. In cooperation with zoo staff, updating and implementing a collection plan appropriate for the facility and that takes into consideration the current animal sustainability crisis. In cooperation with the maintenance supervisor, assures the maintenance and repair of zoo facilities. In cooperation with zoo staff, develops and implements zoo conservation and research programs. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in one of the life sciences as well as six years of experience in the maintenance and care of a variety of classes of zoological specimens. Also requires at least two years documented supervisory experience preferably in an AZA accredited institution. The successful candidate must have strong communication and team-building skills. Any combination of experience and education may be qualifying.

The Zoo is a 13-acre facility with an additional 26 acres available for expansion. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the Abilene Zoo is home to over 600 specimens of over 125 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. The Zoo is Abilene’s number one tourist attraction with an annual attendance in excess of 200,000 guests. In addition, the Abilene Zoo is the only zoo between Fort Worth and El Paso. Valid Texas Drivers License required, good driving record required, record will be checked.

Qualifications:

This position involves working with a crew engaged in a wide variety of street and alley system maintenance and construction; care of heavy construction and maintenance equipment and machinery; and preparation of a variety of traffic control signs. Tech I: Requires experience in operation and servicing of light and medium construction equipment;

 

Tech II: Must meet Tech I qualifications plus 6 months experience equivalent to Street Maintenance Technician I or formal training in the operation of heavy equipment in an accredited school; basic understanding of rigid and flexible pavements; and certification by the Texas Engineering Extension Service in the placement of traffic control devices.

 

Tech III: Must meet Tech I & II qualifications plus 3 years experience equivalent to Technician II or operation of heavy equipment; the ability to meet rough grades in base preparation with heavy equipment and a moderate understanding of rigid flexible pavements; and Hazardous Cargo Endorsement on CDL.

All positions require valid Texas Drivers License, and must have valid Texas Commercial Drivers License with water tank and air brake endorsement; and a good driving record, or ability to obtain within 45 days. Salary depending upon qualifications.
