U.S. Surname Distribution
Provided by Hamrick Software, this database provides a really unique service. Basically, you type in your surname, choose either 1850, 1880, 1920, 1990 or all four, and find out where the people with your last name lived (exact numbers not provided). Data is derived from the 1850, 1880, and 1920 Censuses and 1990's phone books ("Note that the Census data is a sampling of 1 in 100 names, so the 1990 data is the most accurate.").
