Services

Concrete Repairs: James Cade 676-6045
Concrete maintenance personnel are responsible for some curb and gutter repair, bridge repair, and concrete street and alley maintenance. Crews assigned to this activity also assist during major rehabilitative projects.
Asphalt Repairs: Richard Diaz 676-6045
H. Danny Heath 676-6045

Asphalt maintenance functions such as pothole repair are performed by this activity. Additionally, personnel assigned to asphalt repair assist the street rehabilitation crews during seal coating and other major rehabilitative projects.
Repairs consist of repairing, water main blowouts, and deteriorating asphalt.
Crack Sealing: Richard Diaz 676-6045
Repairs consist of using a rubberized asphalt treatment intended to seal cracks in asphalt to prevent moisture from seeping below to the base and weakening the structure. This preventive measure is applied prior to seal coat to establish a good surface seal.
Seal Coating: Richard Diaz 676-6045
This is not a permanent maintenance process. The service life of seal coats on average is 5 to 7 years depending upon traffic volumes, weather, construction techniques, etc.
Seal coats are capable of preventing and correcting a variety of maintenance problems, such as small cracks, ravelling, and flushing. Seal coats can seal existing pavements against the penetration of air and/or water, thus reducing pavement oxidation, and can enrich a dry and/or ravelled surface. Seal coats can also provide or improve skid resistance qualities of a pavement surface as well as arrest fatigue block deterioration.
Favorable weather conditions are important because inclement weather (cold, wet), particularly in combination with high-volume traffic, can be detrimental to seal coat construction and performance.
Gravel Maintenance: Fidencio Garcia (Northside) 676-6045
Ron Burton (Southside) 676-6045
Two crews are tasked with the maintenance of all public gravel streets and alleys. Country-type roads within the city limits as well as Lake Fort Phantom Hill gravel roads are also maintained.
Channel Improvements: Tommy Jordan 676-6048 Involves the new construction of creek channels. Channels in their natural state are excavated, straightened, and widened in order to carry excess runoff generated by heavy rains. 100-year flood protection is the goal.
Drainage Mowing: Tommy Jordan 676-6048
There are approximately 44 miles of creek and drainage ditch banks that require mowing. Weather permitting, these areas are mowed at least three times per year during the growing season. Some heavily populated areas are mowed more frequently as a means of pest control.
Street Rehabilitation: Richard Diaz 676-6045
This activity performs asphalt overlay and street reconstruction. During the summer months, streets are scheduled for seal coating, a preventive maintenance procedure.
Street Sweeping: H. Danny Heath 676-6045
Three street sweepers are presently in operation on a full time basis. Although low hanging tree limbs and accumulations of silt and debris in gutters are a constant challenge to the program; arterial and collector streets are swept six times a month. All other streets are swept on a complaint basis.
