Services and Activities Overview

Recreational Activities

  • Popular new table games as well as old favorites
  • Line Dancing, Tap, Country Western, and Ballroom Dancing is offered
  • New and modern exercise equipment and exercise groups of various levels are available
  • Arts and crafts include ceramics, art, quilting, and other current and seasonal crafts
  • Your musical talent can be developed through participation in a music group or gospel singing
  • Enjoy local sights or explore Texas by participating in organized trips
  • Focal point for senior organizations: WWI and WWII clubs
Volunteerism
  • Volunteers are needed for various jobs such as instructors, teachers, clerical, exercise, dining room, and many others.

Education

  • Computer training and e-mail addresses are available
  • Bimonthly Driver Education courses are offered
  • Basic Spanish and English Classes, History Classes, and others are scheduled frequently
  • Community Awareness Programs about important issues
  • Special guest speakers lecture and inform
Health
  • The Health Check program provides free assessments
  • Blood pressure checks are available each week
  • Special programs on health related issues are scheduled

Nutrition

  • A nutritious noon meal is served Monday through Friday
  • Special diets are prepared for those in need
  • Nutrition education is done monthly
  • Home delivered meals can be arranged for participants who qualify

    Transportation Services

    Are you a senior citizen 60+ with limited mobility because you no longer drive? Looking to get out more often? If so, we can help you! Transportation is available for you from your home to one of the five City of Abilene Senior Activity Centers.

    Our helpful and courteous bus drivers will assist you to and from the buses. You would be picked up at your home in time to enjoy activities, have a nutritious lunch, and be returned to your home shortly thereafter.

    Twice a month after lunch, you would be provided transportation to a local grocery store. Bus drivers will assist in loading and unloading your purchases.

    Although there is no charge for this service, your donations are very much appreciated. Just give us a call at 734-5303 to make arrangements for transportation in a Senior Citizens Bus to one of the five City of Abilene Senior Activity Centers.
