Environmental Recycling
Center
The Environmental Recycling Center, located at 2209 Oak Street, is a "One Stop Drop" Recycling Center as part of Abilene's voluntary recycling program. The hours of operation at the Center are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. The Center is closed on all city approved holidays. Product Exchange Program
(Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program)
We accept:
- Do-It-Yourself oil & oil filters
- Antifreeze, brake fluids, and transmission fluids
- Batteries
- Paints
- Fertilizers, and pesticides
- Solvents and degreasers
- Poisons
- Pool chemicals
- Hobby supplies
- Aerosol cans
- Acids and drain cleaners.
- Tires are accepted but require a processing fee.
- Passenger tires are $2.00 each
- Truck tires are $5.00 each
- Tires larger than 24.5" cannot be accepted.
- An additional charge of $3.00 will be made for any tire on a rim.
We cannot accept:
- Any containers not clearly labeled specifying the contents.
- Containers larger than one gallon (unless arrangements are made with the collection manager)
- Pressurized gas cylinders
- Biologically active substances
- Radioactive materials
- Products containing dioxins or 2-4-5T
- Waste generated by business and industry
- Any one wishing to dispose of explosives or ammunition will be required to make an appointment with the center manager.
We Offer:
- Product exchange program
- Home chemicals that are received in a sound container with its original label that clearly states its contents will be placed into the program for free issue.
- The intent of the program is to use/reuse a product before it is disposed of as hazardous waste.
