Special events are offered throughout the year by the Recreation Division. These events are generated from our staff and citizens, as well as from national organizations. Some of these events include: NFL Punt, Pass & Kick; Movie in the Park; Daddy/Daughter Date Night & Dance; Monster Mash; Golf Tournaments; the Steam-N-Wheels Bike Race Entry form Many of these events rely upon donations and co-sponsorships from local businesses.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
The Youth Athletic Program is a very strong program that uses many City facilities throughout the year. The Recreation Division plays various roles in the operation of this program, ranging from individually sponsoring the program to co-sponsoring with parents. The Division originally started the soccer, football, and basketball programs, eventually turning these over to the youth associations but continues to sponsor the tennis program, track and field, and co-sponsors little league and softball.
ADULT ATHLETIC PROGRAM
The Adult Athletic Program sponsors flag football, and co-sponsors softball. The Recreation Division is a member of Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F.).
RECREATION CLASSES
Recreational classes are offered at all five Recreation Centers. Classes for both youth and adults are offered during the fall, winter, spring and summer. To keep the public informed of recreational activities, 47,000 brochures are distributed to residents of the City of Abilene through The Money Clip.
