Free hay still available with Great Bale Out but time is running out

                          

ABILENE, Texas – Citizens who own equines living in Taylor County still have time to the apply for the ASPCA Great Bale Out grant that provides free hay.  But this opportunity won’t last much longer.  March is the last month that these grants may be applied for.

 

“The Abilene Animal Shelter is still accepting applications for the Great Bale Out through the month of March,” said Animal Services Manager Aaron Vannoy. “These grants have fed 26 equines in our community over 300 bales of hay. We encourage those who are interested to contact us soon so they can take part in this wonderful opportunity.”

 

This grant is only available for equines living in Taylor County and citizens must apply in person at the Abilene Animal Shelter with a current photo of their equines. Abilene participates in the Great Texas Warrant Roundup

 

ABILENE, Texas – The City of Abilene is joining law enforcement agencies and courts from more than 250 jurisdictions across the state in the fifth annual Great Texas Warrant Roundup. The multi-jurisdictional warrant roundup launches Saturday, Feb. 25 and runs through Sunday, March 4. The roundup is designed to target thousands of defendants with traffic, parking, city ordinance, penal code and higher charge warrants from participating jurisdictions.

 

“Before the Great Texas Warrant Roundup begins, we want to encourage people with warrants to voluntarily comply and come in to Municipal Court,” said Chief Marshal Monty Huddleston. “Those with active warrants should contact Municipal Court immediately.”

 

Notices have been mailed over the past few days to individuals with active warrants. Affected persons are urged to contact Municipal Court in the coming weeks to dispose of their cases voluntarily to avoid the inconvenience and embarrassment of arrest at home or at work in front of family, friends or co-workers.

 

Municipal Court is located on the east side of City Hall at 555 Walnut Street. Contact the court office by calling 325-676-6333. Court officials point out that a telephone call does not constitute an appearance and continuances are not granted over the phone.

City seeks input for CDBG & HOME Grant projects

 

ABILENE, Texas – Public Notice:  The City of Abilene Office of Neighborhood Services (ONS) will hold an ONS Advisory Council meeting and public hearing on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the Basement Conference Room at City Hall, 555 Walnut St. The Council will discuss various topics related to housing and community development. The ONS is currently developing the Program Year 2012/2013 Action Plan for the City of Abilene Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Grant (HOME) programs.

 

Input from the public hearing will be used by the ONS to formulate recommendations to the City Council regarding the overall CDGB and HOME Budget for the PY 2012/2013 Action Plan.

Ribbon cutting will reveal newly constructed aircraft hangar

                          

ABILENE, Texas – A ribbon cutting revealing the newly constructed Eagle Aviation Services, Inc. Aircraft Maintenance Hangar 4 will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m.

 

The Development Corporation of Abilene began its relationship with Eagle Aviation Services, Inc. in June 1994. The DCOA purchased Hangars 2 and 3 at the Abilene Regional Airport and began leasing space for Eagle Aviation’s aircraft maintenance operation while Eagle Aviation committed to employee 100 aviation mechanics. Since that time, Eagle Aviation has grown to occupy 4 hangars and employ approximately 385 maintenance and support personnel.

 

In October 2010, the final decision was made to begin the construction of Hangar 4 which would accommodate two additional dock lines and make Abilene a first-class maintenance depot.  Construction began in November 2010 and was recently completed at a cost of $5.3 million, including $2.4 million of fire safety improvements.  Hangar 4 is equipped with a state-of-the-art foam suppression system designed to extinguish an aircraft fire within minutes. 

 

Eagle Aviation Services Aircraft Maintenance Hangar 4 is located on the east side of the Abilene Regional Airport. Those attending the ribbon cutting should enter the airport’s main entrance and turn left onto Lance Drive. Parking attendants will be on hand directing drivers to park on the apron of the hangar located on the east side of the hangar.

Valentine’s adoption special at Abilene Animal Shelter; applications for Great Bale Out grant still available

                          

ABILENE, Texas – The Abilene Animal Shelter is offering a Valentine’s adoption special Feb. 4-18. Spayed and neutered animals may be adopted for $20.  Animals that have not been spayed or neutered may also be adopted with a $20 discount along with a $20 rebate from Rescue the Animals SPCA.  The Abilene Animal Shelter is located at 925 South 25 St. and can be contacted by phone at 325-698-0085. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Animal Services staff will also be at PetsMart Friday, Feb. 10 from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. with animals from the shelter who are looking for new homes.  Those interested in animals available at the Abilene Animal Shelter can also visit the shelter’s website:   www.abilenetx.com/animal/adopt.htm.

 

Citizens still have the opportunity to apply for the ASPCA Great Bale Out grant that provides free hay to equines living in Taylor County. So far, eight people have applied for the grant and 17 equines have been helped with over 150 bales of hay since December 1, 2011.  This grant is only available for equines living in Taylor County and citizens must apply in person at the Abilene Animal Shelter with a current photo of their equines.

“Taz”, victim of animal cruelty, to be adopted Friday

                          

ABILENE, Texas – “Taz”, the puppy who was recently the victim of animal cruelty, is scheduled to be adopted Friday, Feb. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the Key City Veterinary Clinic located at 318 ES 11 St.  Dr. Natalie Matthews of Key City Veterinary Clinic has been caring for Taz and believes he is ready for adoption.

 

News of Taz has touched the hearts of many in the Abilene community.  The City’s Animal Services Division has been collecting names of those interested in adopting Taz.  After careful consideration, Maegan Jennings of Abilene has been selected to adopt Taz.

 

The animal cruelty case involving Taz is still under investigation at this time.  Any questions concerning this case will be addressed by the Abilene Police Department.  Questions about Taz’s adoption can be directed to Aaron Vannoy, Animal Services Division Program Manager by phone at 325-698-0085 or by e-mail aaron.vanoy@abilenetx.com.

Cobb Senior Center Valentine’s Dinner and Dance

                          

ABILENE, Texas – The Cobb Senior Center is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a dinner and dance open to the community on Friday, Feb. 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. Music will be provided by the band Muddy Creek.

 

Tickets for the dinner and dance must be purchased in advanced at the Cobb Senior Center located at 2302 State St. Tickets are $10 for singles and $15 for couples and must be purchased by Monday, Feb. 6.  Tickets for the dance only will be available the evening of the event at the door for $5 per person.
