City of Abilene
Second Chance Energy Efficiency Appliance
Rebate Program Guidelines
The City of Abilene is offering a Second Chance Appliance Rebate Program for citizens that may have missed out on the State’s “Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program” this past Spring. This new program will be based on the State of Texas’ New Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program. More information on the State program can be found at: http://www.texaspowerfulsmart.org/rebate/
Who Qualifies?
City of Abilene residents with a valid Abilene residential address qualify for a rebate if they follow all program rules established by the State program, as well as the program guidelines of the City of Abilene. Participants can be a property owner or renter.
You must replace an older, functional appliance with a new ENERGY STAR qualified model to receive a rebate check. Qualification criteria and rebate amounts will be based on those of the State program.
You can qualify for one rebate per appliance category (for instance, you may not qualify for two refrigerator rebates) and up to two appliance rebates per household (this limit includes any rebates under the City’s original appliance rebate program). Appliances must be purchased from a retail location or contractor located within the City of Abilene. Online purchases or purchases made outside the city limits are not eligible. All payments will be mailed to the residential address, with no exceptions. P.O. Boxes are not accepted without a street address.
To be eligible for the City program, residents must first apply for a qualifying rebate from the State. Upon submission of copies of the required state documentation, including the application form and receipts, the City of Abilene will match the State rebate dollar for dollar, excluding any bonus for recycling the existing appliance. The combination of both the State and City rebates cannot exceed 75% of the purchase price of the appliance.
When to Purchase?
Per the State program guidelines, appliances may be purchased beginning on December 20, 2010. Purchases before this date will NOT be eligible for the rebate. City rebates are subject to available funding and will be provided to citizens on a first come, first served basis until all available funding has been exhausted.
What Appliances are Eligible?
The State website lists all eligible energy efficient appliances, as well as the rebate amounts.
