Mission

It is our mission to provide the highest quality legal representation and services possible in a cost efficient manner to protect the interests of the City of Abilene, Texas.

Overview
As the corporate legal counsel to the City of Abilene, the City Attorney's Office strives to provide comprehensive and appropriate legal services to the Mayor, City Council, city staff, and the appointed boards and commissions. The City Attorney's Office cannot provide legal advice or representation to citizens. As the in-house counsel for a municipal corporation, we must be prepared to daily address questions and concerns from those to whom we provide legal services, as well as citizens. We face an ever-changing broad spectrum of legal issues touching on a multitude of topics including, but not limited to: contracts, employment law, water law, economic development, personal injury, public utilities and franchises, civil service and law enforcement, open meetings and open records, federal housing laws and regulations, Municipal Court prosecution and code enforcement, zoning issues, eminent domain proceedings, collection proceedings and bankruptcies, and much more. Ongoing litigation in state and federal courts, including the appellate level, continues to be a demanding and unpredictable part of our practice. On a typical day, our attorneys will be representing the City of Abilene in various courts, attending board and commission meetings, drafting and reviewing contracts and other documents, conducting research, answering questions about the City for citizens, and providing legal advice and counsel to those we serve and represent.
