Mission :
The Housing Authority's mission is to service the needs of low-income, very low-income and extremely low-income families in the Public Housing Authority's jurisdiction and to:
- increase availability of decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing in its communities;
- ensure equal opportunity in housing;
- promote self-sufficiency and asset development of families and individuals; and,
- improve community quality of life and economic viability.
In addition, the Housing Authority will strive to upgrade sub-standard housing through construction and modernization and to provide quality home ownership which will build stronger and healthier communities while promoting economic independence.
Overview:
The Housing Division oversees the community's public housing programs and offers housing-related services targeted to persons of low and moderate income. Staff takes policy direction from an appointed Housing Authority. The Division is responsible for implementing mandates of the Quality Housing Work Responsibility Act (QHWRA) and other federal legislation impacting the quality of life for customers of public housing. Staff works closely with the Neighborhood Initiatives Division to achieve the City's goals for single-family homeownership and rehabilitation. Public housing residents and participants in the Section 8 program provide input through an Annual Plan Resident Advisory Board.
