Greetings from Abilene, a city located near the center of the great state of Texas.

The Abilene Fire Department was officially organized in 1886 by a handful of residents who wished to address Abilene's fire protection needs. It served as a city service as well as a social club creating a "family" made up of firefighters, children, wives, and other citizens. The department has changed a lot over the years, but we still have a family relationship among our members that work very hard to serve the citizens of Abilene and Taylor County.

Today, our department is staffed by 173 civil service and 7 civilians who are fully paid. The Abilene Fire Department is under the direction of the Fire Chief, appointed by the City Manager, which consists of 2 branches: Emergency Services and Support Services. Our Department is fortunate to have a volunteer Fire Chaplain who spends time with not only our personnel but also those in need at emergency incidents.

Our Mission
To deliver the highest quality service by protecting our community through risk reduction, emergency response, and public service.

Our Vision
We are committed to become a nationally recognized, full-service Fire Department.

Our Core Values S.P.I.R.I.T.
