ENGINEERING TEAM

COMPOSITION

 

The team is composed of:
  • Three Professional Engineers
  • Three Engineering Technicians
  • One CAD/GIS Technician

The team based approach designates roles and responsibilities to different members of the team and people appointed to the team. The Engineer is the leader. The Engineer Technicians produce construction plans, contract documents, specifications, and project cost estimates. One inspector is assigned to the project until it is finished. A Construction Superintendent joins up with the team after a contract has been awarded.

CITY ENGINEER

FLOOD PLAIN ADMINISTRATOR

(TEAM LEADER)

Bob has been employed with the City of Abilene since 1993. He has served in the capacity as the City Construction Engineer, Design Services Engineer and now City Engineer. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer and Registered Professional Land Surveyor.In 2007 he earned a Certification of Floodplain Manager and also holds the title of Floodplain Administator. Before joining the City of Abilene he was employed by the Texas Department of Transportation for approximately forty years. Bob is the past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers and has also served on outside community endeavors. He is deeply involved with all types of Engineering Research and Development.

DESIGN ENGINEER

CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION SUPERVISOR

Cody is the newest member of the engineering team having joined the City of Abilene in October 2005.  He graduated from Texas A&M University in May 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.  He came to the City of Abilene with five and a half years experience working for a private contractor in the heavy highway construction industry, as well as having spent two summers interning with the Texas Department of Transportation.

ENGINEER

Terry has been employed with the City of Abilene since 1970 as a Professional Engineer. He holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin. He is a founding member of the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) and serves as their Region 2 Director. His personal and professional interest deal with water in the areas of hydrology, hydraulics, and water guantity. He is a vital part of the decisions that affect drainage and flooding problems that the Engineering Department deals with on a daily basis.  He also coordinates drainage reviews to solve developmental issues within this department.

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III

David is an Engineering Technician III in our group with over 35 years Engineering experience. He received an Associate Degree in Drafting from Billings Technical School in 1972 beginning his drafting career when it was all accomplished with a pencil on a drawing board. He also owned and operated his own drafting business in Montana for several years before getting married. A lot of his drafting career was with oil and gas companies during the oil boom, but he has many years experience in the Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Architectural fields. David has been with the City of Abilene since 1998. His talent is culminated in CAD and has a broad knowledge in Engineering Mechanics.. David is an asset to this organization and to the City of Abilene.

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II

Becky is an Engineering Technician and has worked for the City of Abilene since January 2000. Before coming here she was involved in municipal operations and the Home Building Industry for over fourteen years. Becky has an Associate Degree in Drafting and Design from Texas State Technical College and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.In 2007 she earned a Certification of Floodplain Manager. She is eager to advance into new and innovative projects. She is a valuable employee to the Engineering Division and to the City of Abilene.

VERONICA DIAZ

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II

Veronica has been with the City of Abilene since 1995. She started to work before she graduated from Cooper High School as a Vocational Intern for Development Services Department. In August of 1996, she became an Administrative Clerk for Streets and Drainage Services Division and in September of the same year, she was transferred to the Engineering Division as Secretary 1. She was promoted to an Engineering Technician in 2001, and has been producing contract plans for construction since that time. She has completed courses in Mechanical Drafting and Auto Cad drafting from Texas State Technical College. In 2007 Veronica was awarded a Bacholor's of Applied Studies Degree with an empasis in Business and Communications from ACU and has plans to continue her eduacation by pursuing her Master's Degree.
She is a member of the Abilene Hispanic Leadership Council. She is a highly motivated young person and a credit to this organization.

CAD/GIS TECHNICIAN II

 
Terry has many responsibilities which include producing Geographical Information System data in the continuing development and updating of City maps. This relatively new functional system created electronic mapping to be used by all departments. Terry has worked for the City for sixteen years in various locations including Planning and Development Services. One of his time consuming projects is to convert paper copies of the various documents into retrievable permanent electronic documents. Terry comes to the City with a background as a self-employed contractor in the building business for fourteen years. Terry has an Associated Degree of Drafting and Design Technology from American Commercial college.
