CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR LISTING

Below are the projects that are under contract through

the City of Abilene Engineering Department. It is our

intent to provide this information so that citizens have

an opportunity to avoid these areas while traveling and

be aware of safety hazard locations.

 

 

 

Project :E.N. 10TH STREET

      Limits of Repair: Griffith Road to Loop 322

      Start date:Current

      End date:Late April 2008

      Details: This job involves the reconstrucion of E.N. 10th Streetby removing the existing roadway and constructing 44 feet of pavement.  This will provide two 12 foot travel lanes and two 10 foot shoulders and construction of a drainage structure at the low water crossing.  The north side of E.N. 10th will include a half curb and gutter section.  Some fencing will be removed and replaced.

       Lane Closure or Street Closure:  This section of roadway to be closed to through traffic during construction. STREET IS NOW OPEN 4/24/2008

 

Project :MISCELLANEOUS WATER CUTS REPAIR (2007-2008)

      Limits of Repair: Locations where the Water Dept has made a cut to repair underground lines.

      Start date:Current

      End date:September 2008

      Details: This is a unique type of contract for the City of Abilene. It involves the repair of existing streets that have been damaged by the replacement of water lines.  There may also be sidewalk repair, curb and gutter repair and concrete alley apron repair as necessary.

       Lane Closure or Street Closure: As needed.

 

Project :JOHN KNOX DRIVE

      Limits of Repair: Curry Lane to Ridgemont Drive

      Start date:April 28, 2008

      End date:Mid June 2008

      Details: This job involves the reconstrucion of John Knox Drive. The surface as well as the base will be blended together and cement stabilized. The new finished surface will be 2" of Type "C" Hot Mix Asphaltic Cement and 1-1/2" of Type "D" Hot Mix Asphaltic Cement.

      Lane Closure or Street Closure: This section of roadway will be closed with traffic detoured to other streets in the area.   

 

Project :SOUTHWEST DRIVE TRAFFIC IMPROVEMENTS

      Limits of Repair: Danville Drive to Catclaw Drive

      Start date:March 31, 2008

      End date:Late October 2008

      Details: This Construction Contract involves the safety enhancements to Southwest Drive. To accomplish this, Southwest Drive will be widened on each side to allow the continuation of right turn lanes.  A 5' wide sidewalk will be added to both sides of the street along with signal light modifications to enhance the flow of traffic. Also, 4" raised medians at driveways will be installed to direct traffic for Right Out Only turn movements. Project also involves widening the roadway underneath US 83/84 (Winter's Freeway) to match the proposed widened lanes on Southwest Drive.

      Lane Closure or Street Closure: Outside lane of traffic will be closed to traffic during construction with access to all businesses to be maintained.

 

Project :CHIMNEY ROCK / CATCLAW DRIVE DRAINAGE CHANNEL

      Limits of Repair: Intersection of Chimney Rock and Catclaw Drive

      Start date:Current

      End date:Mid April 2008 (Awaiting utility adjustment)

      Details: A concrete flume will be constructed at the back of an existing curb and extend down to a preformed scour hole set in a detention pond.

       Lane Closure or Street Closure: None anticipated.

 

Project :AUGUSTA DRIVE STORM SEWER

      Limits of Repair: 900 block of Augusta Drive

      Start date:Current

      End date:Mid April 2008 (COMPLETED)

      Details: An inlet box and a 30" HDPE (high density plastic) pipe to install next to an existing box and pipe.

       Lane Closure or Street Closure: None anticipated

 

Project :CITY WIDE SIDEWALKS

      Limits of Repair: Misc. School locations

      Start date:Late May to early June

      End date:Summer 2009

      Details: This job involves the construction of sidewalks around 18 schools and making various ADA improvements. ADA improvements will involve replacing those driveways that are connected to the new sidewalk but are out of ADA compliance.

       Lane Closure or Street Closure: Outside lane of traffic adjacent to sidewalk work will be closed as needed.

 

Project :N. 4TH STREET REPAIR, N. 5TH CONCRETE REPAIR (Cypress to Cedar) and 

               LIBRARY SIDEWALK REPAIR    

      Limits of Repair: 3 locations as listed above

      Start date:Late May to Early June

      End date:November 2008

      Details: This construction contract involves repairing concrete and sidewalk in three different areas.  N. 4th Street involves cutting out bad cracks in the street and replacing with concrete. There is a small amount of sidewalk and curbs that need to replaced also. Conduit will be installed in specific areas to prepare for future work on the traffic signals.  N. 5th Street and the Library repairs concern replacing sidewalk after leveling material under the sidewalk to remove tripping hazards.  One curb ramp will be updated at the Library area.  These areas will also involve the replacement of curb and gutter in specified areas as well.

      Lane Closure or Street Closure: N. 4th Street will be closed half at a time; intersecting streets to be closed half at a time as well.  Traffic flow to be maintained on both areas.
