Thursday, May 8 – Main Library Come take a look at Janet Hughes’ antique sun-colored glass manufactured before 1820. It has turned a lavender color after having been left in the sun for some time. You’ll also want to stop in and see Debra Warr’s fabulous mural devoted to all the wonders that spring from the imagination and the pages of children’s literature. Free. Teen Book Club Thursday, May 8 – Main Library, 6:00 p.m. This month’s theme is recipes and cookbooks. Drop by and build a Sundae! National Children's Book Week
Monday – Friday, May 12-16, 2008 – 3:30 each day
Children's books can change lives! Join us for special school age storytimes for kids ages 6-12. There will be fairy tales, funny stories, scary tales, and maybe a puppet or two. On Wednesday, there will be an extra-special program at the NCCIL showcasing all kinds of children’s books and illustration styles. After hearing some great stories, kids may make a book of their own using some of the styles of art presented. Free. Texas Author's Series - Lisa Wingate

Have lunch with romantic novelist Lisa Wingate as she talks about her latest books. Bring lunch; we’ll provide drinks at this free event, or a limited number of sandwiches will be available for $4. Cover-to-Cover Book Club

Abilene Public Library’s book club members select a fiction or non-fiction title for the coming month by consensus. In honor of Memorial Day, and our neighboring National WASP WWII Museum in Sweetwater, May’s title is “Winning My Wings: a woman Air Force service pilot in World War II” by Marion Hodgson. Join this interesting, lively discussion group as they read award-winning books – Everyone is welcome! Free.
Teen Anime Club

This monthly club is everything Japanese animation art. Special for this month: a cosplay tutorial session with Amanda Sasser, who has been cosplaying for three years at one of Texas’ biggest anime conventions. Amanda is going to share her personal tips and tricks on making an awesome costume. She will talk on subjects such as wig styling, costume sewing, and prop building. For ages 12-18. Free. It’s Abilene Public Library’s very popular annual version of “The Antiques RoadShow™”. Dust off all the treasures from the basement, shed or attic and bring them in for an evaluation from a local expert. If you come at 7:30, lines will be shorter! Three items per person, please, and no certified appraisals will be given. It’s free to find out if you’ve got trash, or treasure!
