About the Library

Providing every customer with excellent library service.
The Abilene Public Library is the primary information and resource center for Abilene and Taylor County. More than 300,000 volumes and numerous library services are available to the public. Services range from Internet access and on-line databases, to large type materials and children's reading programs. The Abilene Public Library is comprised of a Main Library, the Mockingbird Branch Library and the South Branch Library. These locations serve 42,000 library cardholders who check out more than 750,000 books and materials each year.

APL Mission Statement
The mission of the Abilene Public Library is to provide materials, services, and programs to help community residents obtain information which meets their personal, educational, professional, and recreational needs. Special emphasis is placed on providing current, high-demand, high-interest materials in a variety of formats for individuals of all ages; providing accurate, useful and timely information for job-related and personal interests;and encouraging young children to develop an interest in reading and learning.
